In 1961 when the E-Type made its debut; Enzo Ferrari called it “The most beautiful car ever made.” Jaguar is known for making elegant, high-end, luxury vehicles. It is a brand that is synonymous with success… If you drive a “Jag” you’ve made it.
Despite booming SUV sales in the US, Jaguar has not been an option. The question has never been if Jaguar could build a capable SUV. The real question is can an SUV be a real Jaguar? The arrival of the F-Pace gives us the answer.
The front end of the F-Pace perfectly reiterates the style of current Jaguar models. It has a “handsome” look that is immediately recognizable as pure Jaguar. The profile is “sleek” and the view for the rear is “sporty;” two words not commonly used to describe vehicles built to carry 5 people. It is quite simply the best-looking Sport Utility Vehicle in its class.
The F-Pase is available in several different configurations. The Standard, Premium, Prestige, R-Sport, S and First Edition all share the same overall design but offer a wide variety of options. The R-Sport package comes with an assertive exterior trim and specialized sport seats. There are two available engines to choose from; the performance driven Supercharged 3.0L V6 or the Diesel 2.0L 4 –cylinder designed to maximize fuel efficiency.
If you’re anything like me, you also prefer the Supercharged V-6 over the fuel efficient 4-Cylinder. The exhaust sound alone is enough to sell the F-Pace as a performance vehicle on par with the other F-type sports cars in the Jaguar lineup. It is an entertaining SUV to drive; the Zero to 60 time of 5.4 seconds will ensure any errands you run will be completed on a tight schedule. The steering is precise and thanks to the all wheel drive the traction is reliable. This feels like a Jaguar.
The interior has an executive feel that looks very premium. The contrasting stitching and dark wood trim inside continue the sporty/elegant theme established on the outside. A touch controlled infotainment system features a 3G data connection for satellite images and is ready for a smartphone syncing to allow selected apps to run through the center screen. The optional Interior Mood Lighting system creates a visual ambience and the 850-watt sound system does the rest. Quality, craftsmanship and innovation are on full display for all who are invited to ride.
In regard to the classic benchmarks of a Sport Utility Vehicle, the F-Pace has them all in spades. The cargo hold is huge… an impressive 33.5 cubic feet. It is nearly twice the size of some of its high-end SUV competitors. Every inch of this SUV has been maximized for usability.
Aside from performance and design, the F-Pace also utilizes the latest technology to keep you and your passengers safe. Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition (with intelligent speed limiter for habitual speeders), Blind Spot Monitor, and Adaptive Cruise Control systems are all available to eliminate as much human error as possible.
Having driven the F-Pace and seen the reactions it gets on the streets of Miami, it’s safe to say an SUV can be a real Jaguar.
